What Is BOTOX?

Fine lines and wrinkles caused by facial movement may feel inevitable, but they're far more manageable than most people realize. Every time you smile, concentrate, or squint, the muscles beneath your skin are at work. Over years of repetition, that movement quietly leaves its mark. BOTOX Cosmetic works by temporarily relaxing specific muscles, allowing your skin to smooth out and those lines to soften. With regular treatment, it may also help slow new lines from forming. Sessions are typically done in 15 to 30 minutes, and you can return to your normal routine right away.

Benefits of BOTOX

  • Visibly softens crow's feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and other dynamic wrinkles
  • May help prevent new lines from forming with regular maintenance treatments
  • Fast appointments that typically take 30 minutes or less, with no downtime required
  • Subtle, natural-looking results that preserve your individual facial features
  • FDA-approved to address excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Pairs well with dermal fillers for a more complete facial rejuvenation outcome

Am I a Good Candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX is appropriate for adults of any gender who want to soften or prevent dynamic wrinkles without surgery. Strong candidates are in good overall health and have realistic expectations; those primarily troubled by movement-based lines rather than volume loss or skin laxity are generally the best fit. BOTOX is not recommended during pregnancy or for individuals with certain neuromuscular conditions, which is why a consultation with one of our providers is an important first step before treatment.

Why Choose Aurora Medical Spa for BOTOX?

Our injectors bring the kind of hands-on expertise that translates into consistently excellent outcomes. Every provider maps your facial anatomy and goals before a single unit is placed, with proportion and natural movement as the consistent benchmarks. With locations across Missouri, Colorado, and Texas, expert care is never far away. We believe every visit should feel like a true oasis of seamless serenity, and that level of personalized attention doesn't stop when you leave the chair.

Your Consultation

Your consultation at Aurora Medical Spa is designed to be a real conversation. One of our providers will review your cosmetic goals and medical history before evaluating the specific areas you'd like to address. If BOTOX is the right fit, you'll come away with realistic expectations and a clear sense of next steps. This is also the time to ask about combining BOTOX with other treatments for a more complete outcome.

How Much Does BOTOX Cost?

BOTOX® is typically priced per unit ($14 standard, $13 for Members), with a special $10/unit rate for new clients (50 units for $500). Because every treatment plan is individualized, your provider will give you a personalized cost estimate during your consultation. Aurora Medical Spa regularly offers specials and promotions, so we encourage you to check current offers before your appointment.

What to Expect During Your BOTOX Treatment

Before Treatment Begins

Your provider will review the areas being targeted and mark the injection sites for precision. Ice or a topical numbing cream may be applied to minimize any discomfort before the session gets underway. Photos may also be taken to document your starting point and serve as a baseline reference going forward.

The Injection Session

BOTOX is delivered using an extremely fine-gauge needle, which keeps the experience as tolerable as possible. Most clients describe each injection as a brief, mild pinch. Depending on the number of treatment areas, sessions typically run between 15 and 30 minutes. No sedation is involved, and most clients return to their day immediately after.

Immediately After Your Session

You'll be free to resume most normal activities right away. Before you leave, your provider will review post-care instructions with you, which typically include avoiding strenuous exercise and significant heat exposure for the rest of the day. Try to avoid touching or pressing on the treated areas for the first several hours.

BOTOX Recovery

There is no formal downtime after BOTOX. Most clients leave their appointment and return directly to work or their regular daily activities. Minor redness, slight swelling, or small pinpoint marks at the injection sites are common and typically resolve within a few hours.

Some clients experience light bruising, which can be concealed with makeup and typically resolves within several days. Avoiding over-the-counter blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E in the days before your appointment may help reduce this likelihood, though you should never discontinue a prescribed medication without first consulting your physician. Staying well hydrated and avoiding alcohol in the 24 hours following treatment may also support a smoother recovery.

BOTOX Results

Initial softening is often visible within three to five days of treatment, with the full effect appearing at around the two-week mark. Results typically last three to four months, at which point a maintenance appointment can keep the skin looking smooth. Clients who maintain consistent appointments often find that lines appear softer even between treatments, as the targeted muscles grow less active with repeated relaxation.

What areas of the face can BOTOX treat?

BOTOX commonly addresses crow's feet, forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, bunny lines, lip lines, neck bands, and downturned mouth corners. It's also used for a pebble chin or a gummy smile.

Can BOTOX look unnatural?

Only when too much product is used or it's placed imprecisely. In the right hands and amounts, results look refreshed rather than 'done.' Our injectors treat conservatively and check in at the two-week mark to see if any touch-up is needed.

Can I get BOTOX while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No, we recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding, since there isn't enough safety data for these periods yet, even though systemic absorption from cosmetic injections is minimal.

How is BOTOX different from fillers?

BOTOX relaxes the muscles causing dynamic wrinkles. Fillers work differently, adding volume to smooth out structural folds that are present regardless of expression. Both target visible aging, just through different mechanisms.

Are there any risks?

BOTOX has a strong safety record, though minor side effects like temporary redness, swelling, or bruising can occur. Rarely, slight eyelid drooping or asymmetry may develop, both of which resolve on their own. Working with an experienced injector lowers these risks.

Is BOTOX suitable for men?

Yes. Treatment is adjusted for individual facial anatomy, including stronger brow musculature common in men, so results always look proportionate and natural.

How many units will I need?

That depends on the treatment areas, the depth of your lines, and your muscle strength. Your provider will give you a specific estimate during your consultation.
