So you want to explore restoring lost volume in your face. Injectable fillers, or ‘liquid facelift’ can help you lose those bags under your eyes, achieve fuller, more youthful cheeks and reduce lines around your mouth. At Aurora Medical Spa, your comprehensive anti-aging treatment plan is devised just for you and your skin’s particular needs. You can rest assured that your nurse is an expert in the non-surgical and anti-aging procedures of Botox® and injectable fillers. A wide range of dermal filler products is available. Based on the location of your desired results and your history, we will help you find the right filler(s) for you.
Fillers are used in the rejuvenation of many facial areas.

The choice of the injection technique depends on the indication, its location, the filler substance, size of the needle, and the experience of your injector. Our injectors have extensive education and experience in filler administration. You are in good hands. For best results, you will want to follow some simple guidelines for receiving any dermal filler available at Aurora Medical Spa in our Chesterfield or Des Peres offices.
Our injectable fillers include:
- Juvederm XC
- Juvederm Voluma
- Juvederm Volbella
- Juvederm Vollure XC
- Restylane
- Restylane Refyne
- Restylane Defyne
- Kybella
Please remember it can take from 1-7 days for the results of cosmetic treatments to fully settle in. Unless something is really off, most minor problems will resolve in that time by just being patient. We suggest that you try to avoid alcohol for 24 hours after a filler treatment. And it’s advised that you not do any inversions in yoga or do hot yoga for at least 24 hours after an injectable. And it’s a good idea to avoid excessive sun or heat until any initial swelling and redness have resolved.
Plan Treatment
Plan time in your schedule in case you bruise. Some patients bruise from 7-10 days, occasionally longer, so it is best to have your injection 1 month prior to an important event.
Avoid Blood Thinners
Motrin, Aspirin, Exedrin, Ibuprofen (Motrin, Aleve, Advil), St. John’s Wort, Ginko Biloba, Ginseng and Fish Oil decrease the formation of blood clotting, and thus may increase the risk of bruising. You may want to avoid their usage just prior to getting injectables. Some of these may be needed for medical reasons so check with your doctor first. If you are on warfarin/Coumadin or Plavix, of course stay on it and discuss this with your Aurora Med Spa professional. If you experience any pain, you may take Tylenol (acetominophen) as necessary.
Postinjection Management
Massaging of the treated area and strenuous physical activity should be avoided for at least six hours. You may want to sleep with your head elevated for one night. Your regular skin care routine may be followed after 24 hours.
Reduce Bruising
Bruising is a major concern for patients receiving injectable treatments. While many patients see very little bruising and some experience swelling that goes down within days of a treatment, there are some tips on how to reduce and camouflage after-treatment bruising.
Drink Water
While hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm work by holding on to water – one reason they look and feel natural – the chemical bonding process that allows this to occur is very strong and not influenced by drinking extra water. So, while there is not a medical/scientific relationship between water consumption and fillers, it is good for you, so drink up!
Arnica Montana
Some people take Arnica Montana one-day prior or the morning of injections. You can find Arnica Montana at certain drugstores and often at WholeFoods. Don’t take if you have high blood pressure or heart problems.
Cold Compresses
Cold compresses can help keep the treated area cool and thus decrease swelling and bruising. However, patients need to take care not to overdo it with the ice. Overdoing it with extreme cold can be irritating to some skin, so we recommend using cold gel packs in moderation. You will be supplied cold gel packs at Aurora Medical Spa after receiving fillers.
Concealer
Concealer can be used immediately after treatment for bruising and discoloration. Light bruising may be camouflaged by complexion colored foundation alone, however, darker bruises may require the neutralizing method first, followed by foundation.
Swelling, lumps and bumps can happen when you get Botox, or fillers and other cosmetic injectables. Even the best injectors in the country can give a patient a bruise, red spot or temporary bumps with any of the cosmetic injectables. To avoid having any serious post-treatment side effects it is always best to go to the most expert injector in your area. In the St. Louis area, you will find them at Aurora Medical Spa.
